Last Saturday Jan. 14, 2012 Krav Maga Detroit hosted it’s first seminar this year – INTRO TO KRAV MAGA.
The seminar lead by KMD Instructor Lukasz with the assistance of KMD Instructors Bruce and Sheila, took off at noon. Training room #1 was filled with people – men, women, young and older – all ready to see what Krav Maga was all about.

After a light and fun warm-up everybody was ready to start hitting stuff. In a quick and efficient fashion the instructors taught basic combatives: punches, open hand strikes, elbow strikes, knees and kicks to the groin. Each technique was explained and then executed on the pads. After practicing the new moves, the participants were put through drills designed to test their ability to perform under a little bit of stress. With each new technique the intensity of the drills increased. And with each drill the participants were having more and more fun.

Then came the time for weapon defenses. The Knife Threat From The Front was first, followed by the Gun From The Front. Very quickly the students recognized the value of Krav Maga philosophy of “keeping it simple”. It didn’t take long before they were defending themselves and disarming attackers armed with training guns and knives.

Following the weapon defenses the participants were introduced to the vicious, up close and personal attacks like being slammed against the wall and choked. And once again a simple and effective Krav Maga technique got them out of the jam and into safety in no time.

At the end, everybody had a great time and learned a lot in just 90 minutes. For many, it was an eye opening experience.
We are very happy that so many of you decided to join us that Saturday afternoon and we hope that now you understand why we love what we do.

Thank you all for coming and we hope to see you again soon. Visit us on Facebook to see some pictures from the event.

Thanksgiving is one of my most favorite days of the year. Yes, I love good food and there will be plenty of it this year, for which I’m definitely thankful. More importantly however, it’s a time of reflection for me. Time to slow down, look around and appreciate everything I’ve been blessed with. My wife, my family, health, an amazing gift of living in the United States, the greatest country on Earth. And then my thoughts immediately take me to the farthest corners of the globe where our young men and women, many of them my friends, sacrifice so much so I could have this peaceful moment with my loved ones. I am so thankful for you.

And then there are my brothers in Law Enforcement, Fire, EMS. You are our heroes every day protecting and saving lives right here at home. And as every year, while I’m enjoying the time with my family, many of you will be away from yours, making sure nothing disturbs our holiday. I am thankful for you.

Then it always comes back to You who are reading this, my Krav Maga Detroit Family.
I’m thankful for all KMD Instructors. For your heart, commitment to excellence and hard work. You have tough lives. When most people come home to their families after a whole day or night of work, you head straight to KMD to share your gift with others. I often see it in your eyes that you’ve had a rough day, but then you step on the training floor and you light up the room with your energy. Day in and day out you kick ass like there’s no tomorrow. You educate, you motivate, you make people’s lives better. I am so thankful for you.

And finally a huge THANK YOU to all of you who have been training and supporting us all this time, many of you for years. There’s so much you could do with your time and hard earned money yet you choose to show up and work your butt off in our classes. You are the sole reason we exists and I am honored every time you set foot in our Training Center.
A young Polish boy had an impossible dream once to live in America, and one day it came true. He kept on dreaming though and you are a living proof that dreams do come true. I can never thank you enough for what you’ve done for the KMD and me personally, but every day, and especially this Thanksgiving, I will always be thankful for you.

Happy Thanksgiving

COMBAT CONDITIONING WORKOUT

Tun Tavern and the Birth of the Corp:

On November 10, 1775, the Continental Congress commissioned Samuel Nicholas to raise two Battalions of Marines. That very day, Nicholas set up shop in Tun Tavern. He appointed Robert Mullan, then the proprietor of the tavern, to the job of chief Marine Recruiter — serving, of course, from his place of business at Tun Tavern. Prospective recruits flocked to the tavern, lured by cold beer and the opportunity to serve in the new Corps of Marines. So, yes, the U.S. Marine Corps was indeed born in Tun Tavern. Needless to say, both the Marine Corps and the tavern thrived during this new relationship.

Marine Corps Birthday:
