The weekend conference in Colorado brought together elite strength and conditioning coaches from the worlds of boxing, judo, and mixed martial arts to present the most cutting-edge topics and best practices in strength and conditioning for combat sports. Who better to learn from than the best. Loren Landow, who has trained over 500 athletes in the NFL, NHL, MLB, and UFC; Forrest Griffin the former UFC Light Heavyweight champion and UFC Hall of Famer; and Joel Jamieson one of the foremost authorities in strength and conditioning for combat sports, Director of Strength and Conditioning for Pride Fighting Championships, and consultants for many organizations including the United States Special Forces. The hands on experience was priceless and the knowledge shared from these experts was invaluable for successful training. It is through skillful training that we win but only with purposeful strength and conditioning can human potential be met and injury prevented.
The extra time before and after the conference in Colorado was time spent training. Weight lifting, but most importantly, Muay Thai. Duane Ludwig just recently opened his own gym near Denver which ended up being a great location to train at. Duane is a Bas Rutten Black Belt, two time UFC Coach of the year, and has the fastest knockout in UFC History. It was an honor to meet and train under such an experienced fighter. Whether it was the technique and kickboxing classes to full Muay Thai sparring, Duane ran great classes and passed on techniques surely to be seen in the future.
