It's 2020 and you are looking in the mirror wondering why your pants fit just a little tighter! So you deicide to "diet" by storming the kitchen and throwing all the "bad foods" away. Next, you hit the gym and do 50 min on the treadmill and call it a day. This lasts for about a week before you crash and burn. Why? Because eating healthy is NOT meant to be a quick fix! Training is NOT just running or moving on a cardio machine. It requires all the puzzle pieces in place and a working BALANCE to occur.
Here are a few tips to get you on the right track:
1) DRINK WATER - Yes EASY! Start with drinking 1/2 your body weight in water. So, if you weigh 100lb, drink 50oz of water:)
2) EAT PROTEIN - this is important for maintaining and building muscle. Most people don't realize they are not eating ENOUGH protein!
3) Carbs & Fats - you needs these too! All macros balance each other. Carbs fuel your energy and Fats help keep your hormones at optimal levels. Generally, keep these in moderation and adjust based on how you look, feel and what your goals are.
4) MOVE - Cardio is important but it's no the only exercise you should be doing! 20min a day of cardio is a great place to start!
5) Lift WEIGHTS - this is how we build muscle and help the body burn calories! A lot of people feel lost in this area. If you are new to weight training, attend a group class or consider hiring a coach that can help guide you! Bottom line - start simple. Lifting weights 2-3 times a week is a good starting. Focus on one core muscle group at a time. Most importantly HAVE FUN!
When all the pieces are in play working with each other, that is when you will see results and be able to retain the results. Your body wants to be healthy and active! Don't over think it - just KEEP IT EASY!
