Could Our Instincts Be Wrong Pt. 3

Could our instincts be wrong? pt. 3
In a self-defense situation, several natural human reactions to a threat can be less useful or even counterproductive. These reactions are often instinctive, driven by the body’s fight-flight-freeze-fawn response to stress or danger.
Here's another one - PANIC.

3. Uncontrolled Panic or Hyperventilation

• What it is: Panic involves a surge of adrenaline leading to rapid breathing, trembling, or disorganized thinking. Hyperventilation can cause dizziness, reduced coordination, or even fainting.

• Why it’s not useful: Panic impairs your ability to think clearly, assess threats, or execute defensive techniques. For example, if you’re hyperventilating, you may struggle to run, fight, or communicate effectively. It can also make you appear vulnerable, potentially encouraging the attacker.

• Context where it might help: The adrenaline from panic can sometimes fuel a burst of energy for escape, but without control, it’s more likely to hinder than help.

Now think about any drill you did during classes. Especially the drills involving more than one technique. So often students forget to switch or what to do next or where to go. This is done on purpose and Krav Maga is one of the few activities out there utilizing this approach. We expose you to stress which might lead to a panic so you can learn to deal with it and become friends. Only then can you use stress to help you by sharpening your reactions and giving you the boost.

Train hard and make stress your friend.
