n a self-defense situation, several natural human reactions to a threat can be less useful or even counterproductive. These reactions are often instinctive, driven by the body’s fight-flight-freeze-fawn response to stress or danger.
Here's another one - OVERREACTING/BLIND AGGRESSION
• What it is: The “fight” response can manifest as uncontrolled, impulsive aggression, such as flailing, screaming uncontrollably, or attacking without strategy.
• Why it’s not useful: Blind aggression often lacks precision, wasting energy and leaving you open to counterattacks. For example, swinging wildly at an attacker might miss or expose you to a takedown. It can also escalate a situation that could have been de-escalated or avoided.
• Context where it might help: A sudden, aggressive response can startle an attacker, creating an opportunity to escape, but only if it’s directed and controlled.
Aggressions is a part of a human condition and it can be an amazing tool. But like with any other tool, we must learn how to use it properly. In Krav Maga training we spend a lot of time helping you develop and focus your aggression as without it, no technique will work. It is absolutely essential. That's why in every class you will notice a familiar template. You learn a new strike or a move slowly and deliberately. Rep after rep you build a connection between your mind and your body, you hone the form, targeting and distance management. And then comes that one drill that, if done right, will leave you gasping for air. This is the time to open up the aggression, to go all out. Yes your form will suffer at first but it's ok. You will get better. So the next time the drill comes, push yourself harder than you ever have, pull out all the stops, open up the throttle and crush it. You might even feel amazing after releasing all the pent up stress. The goal is to be able to flip the switch, go from 0 to 100 in a blink of an eye and on demand and turn it off when done.
Good training,
