This workshop is a hands on introduction to the two Olympic lifts; the snatch and the clean and jerk. The goal of this workshop is to safely, effectively, and efficiently learn the basics to executive the two lifts.
Explosive power is the dominating trait of successfully executing self defense techniques and combatives especially in a short period of time. While Olympic lifting does not mimic specific combat movements it has been shown to increase movement velocity and rate of force development and thus the ability to produce the greatest force possible in the shortest amount of time. The transfer to sport and self defense is apparent; hit faster, hit harder. While Olympic lifting improves coordination, stability, mobility, speed, balance, and power; techniques involving hip extension should see the greatest improvements such as: bucking, front kick, front kick to vertical target, defense front kick, and sprawling to name a few. Secondary improvements would include increased punching speed and power, and increased foot speed.
